"If"

Are losing theirs and blaming it on you,
If you can trust yourself when all men doubt you
But make allowance for their doubting too,
If you can wait and not be tired by waiting,
Or being lied about, don't deal in lies,
Or being hated, don't give way to hating,
And yet don't look too good, nor talk too wise:

If you can dream--and not make dreams your master,
If you can think--and not make thoughts your aim;
If you can meet with Triumph and Disaster
And treat those two impostors just the same;
If you can bear to hear the truth you've spoken
Twisted by knaves to make a trap for fools,
Or watch the things you gave your life to, broken,
And stoop and build 'em up with worn-out tools:

If you can make one heap of all your winnings
And risk it all on one turn of pitch-and-toss,
And lose, and start again at your beginnings
And never breath a word about your loss;
If you can force your heart and nerve and sinew
To serve your turn long after they are gone,
And so hold on when there is nothing in you
Except the Will which says to them: "Hold on!"

If you can talk with crowds and keep your virtue,
Or walk with kings--nor lose the common touch,
If neither foes nor loving friends can hurt you;
If all men count with you, but none too much,
If you can fill the unforgiving minute
With sixty seconds' worth of distance run,
Yours is the Earth and everything that's in it,
And--which is more--you'll be a Man, my son!

Snowblower wouldn't start today, the first time I tried to get it running this year. I was able to get it to cough a few times by spraying starter fluid straight into the spark plug hole. It was a sunny day and it wasn't too cold so I started taking it apart. I got into the carberator and eventually had it off and in the basement shop. I had it pretty much compeltely apart and found one tiny little hole was clogged with old gas. Cleaned it out, put it back together and the damn thing ran. I had left a message with my snowblower mechanic and when he called back and I told him I had fixed it he said, "Well, Good for You."

I made it through xmas morning fine, but by 10pm I was curled up in a ball on the couch. Took a pretty long nap with my new fleece, flannel pants under the down comforter and was still freezing. I was able to keep anything from coming back up, and thought it was food poisining - that's what it felt like. We went over to my sisters and while there Anna said her stomach hurt, so we left, realizing it was probably a flu and probably contagious. Anna spit up a bit on the way home, and some more later in the night. I feel fine the next day, as does Anna - but Suzy has a touch and Nick is destroying diapers on a third grade level.

This is my family Tartan. It's called the Shepherd Historic Family Tartan. I found it here: Tartan Finder v2.0
At first I was a little disapointed that it was so boring - the other Tartans had colors and more interesting patterns. Then I did some more surfing, I mean research: And found that the Shepherd Tartan is the ORIGINAL tartan. There's some history on it at the Sheppard Family Assoication website. Interesting site with lots of links.

We've bought a lot of tickets in the past couple months... all for events that are happening next year. We didn't plan this far ahead to get good seats, we did it so we could pay face value for the tickets and not pay a scalper or ticket agency a fee. The most obvious are the Red Sox tickets - which sold out in a couple days, but you can still get a bleacher seat to the Yankee home opener for $518, a ticket that cost $12 if you could figure out a way to be the first person to buy it. We're driving to Baltimore to see the Red Sox play there, and I'm bringing the kids to that game becuase the tickets only cost $15. The original sellers of the ticket have no incentive to stop this sort of thing, becuase they get their money no matter what happens.

We got tickets for about 7 Red Sox games, a Dave Brubeck concert, and the last Seth Yacavone Band show. I don't think it would have been hard to get the Seth Tickets, becuase I think the majority of the people buying them, if not everyone, is planning on attending the concert: as opposed to making a profit off someone else who didn't get tickets soon enough.

End of Seth Yacavone Band

Very sad. Last time I saw them I was trying to imagine what it's like touring with a small band, kind of like a family of gypsies to a degree. Suzy said I was not allowed to become their keyboard player (not that I'm good enough anyway) and abandon our family for months at a time. If you can, I suggest going to one of the final shows, a list is here: http://www.jambase.com/search.asp?bandID=4
The bands website isn't quite as up to date on tour stuff, but you can get some CD's and check the forums. http://sethyac.com
